Process

Dark Desire was a complete end-to-end exploration of concept design, 3D modeling, rendering, and physical fabrication. It demonstrates my ability to bring a character to life through both digital and real-world mediums while maintaining a cohesive visual identity. The result is an emotional, tactile piece designed to disturb, intrigue, and inspire.

Her Story

This project draws inspiration from gothic horror, supernatural folklore, victorian era and the idea of beauty within decay. The doll represents a cursed soul returning from the dead. The coffin packaging reinforces the narrative and elevates the unboxing experience into something ceremonial and eerie.

the Product

3D sculpted model & Render

Dark Desire is a novelty collectible doll designed to blur the line between sculpture, character, and artifact. The project explores themes of resurrection and decay through both the doll and its coffin packaging. Combining digital sculpting, physical craftsmanship, and gothic branding, the piece was created as a fully-rendered concept and brought to life through 3D printing and hand painting techniques.

Packaging

3D sculpted model & Render

The coffin-style packaging was also modeled from scratch in Rhino, brought into Render to UV map, to be able to apply materials through Adobe Substance Painter 3D.

The coffin is designed to fit the doll snugly while serving as a narrative extension of the product. Its shape, scale, and structure were carefully considered to balance functionality with visual storytelling. The coffin was 3D printed and then treated with textured spray paint to simulate render materials. Branding elements and interior sculpting were added to complete the collectible experience, turning the packaging into part of the overall storytelling.

Bringing it to life

To fabricate the doll, I 3D printed the sculpt in PETG, chosen for its durability and ability to preserve fine surface detail. I then hand-painted the figure using layers of acrylic paint carefully building up texture and tone. To create additional shading and a sense of depth, I used chalk pastels to contour features to enhance the doll’s eerie realism.
