Project Overview
Resurrectionists is a comprehensive brand identity, web design, and merchandise concept for a three-day oddities and curiosities expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center during Summerween. Named after 18th-century grave snatchers, the event celebrates macabre culture through ethically sourced curiosities, immersive freak show performances, and interactive sideshow activities.
The Problem
Generic Convention Branding: Standard oddities expos often rely on repetitive, dark-mode templates that feel static and fail to capture the lively, theatrical energy of freak show performances.
Purely Transactional Experiences: Competing events focus almost exclusively on shopping, missing the opportunity to build a rich, interactive brand narrative around community and sideshow entertainment.
Tonal Balance (Creepy vs. Welcoming): Balancing an 18th-century macabre theme (grave robbing lore, bloody circus motifs) with a modern, ethical, and inclusive tone designed to engage diverse "misfit" audiences
The Solution
A cohesive, high-impact brand ecosystem that merges historical gothic lore with a vintage "bloody circus" aesthetic:
Theatrical & Gothic Visual Identity: A custom logotype paired with eerie textures, vintage illustrations, and a bold color system that sets it apart from standard retail expos.
Immersive Merch Ecosystem: Collectible posters, enamel pins, T-shirts, and tote bags designed as authentic mementos from a one-of-a-kind event experience.
High-Engagement Digital Experience: A responsive website prototype with dynamic hero animations, clear schedule navigation, and dedicated vendor highlights to streamline ticketing and drive attendance.
The Strategy & Process
Historical Research & Brand Concept:
Grounded the brand in the history of 18th-century "Resurrectionists" (grave robbers who supplied medical schools with cadavers), flipping the lore into a modern celebration of ethically sourced taxidermy, bone art, and wet specimens.
